House Sitting
From Atherton we travelled south to the Whitsundays, to look after two little dachshunds. The house was on the beach at Hydeaway Bay, a residential part of the Whitsundays and a stunning area. Bertie is 5 years old and Willie 12 years old with only 3 legs.

Being blind and deaf (common for his age) Willie wasn’t up to many adventures but loved his walks along the beach. Bertie on the other hand was up for any kind of adventure, and would make his own if we didn’t come up with something exciting. A real hoot.

We were puzzled to find that Australia Post refers to this locality as Hideaway Bay whereas street signs, businesses, and residents use Hydeaway Bay. Wikipedia has it both ways (“Hideaway Bay, also spelled Hydeaway Bay”).
Proserpine
Stoped at Fishi’s for lunch and to pick up some seafood. Really great food. The batter was like a tempura. So light and lovely. Also lots of fresh seafood.

Airlie Beach
Our favourite book store was still there.

Dingo Beach Market

Cape Gloucester Resort

Horseshoe Bay, Bowen
Such a beautiful place, will definitely be back for winter holidays some time. People were swimming and snorkelling. Being winter there are no stingers in the water, and no crocs due to the water being too cold for them. Arabon Seafood in Bowen has an amazing array of fresh seafood, straight from the trawlers.

Dingo Beach walk
You can walk from Hydeaway Bay to Dingo Beach at low tide along the rocks. Most people go over the hill instead of around it. But we went around; it was not easy in thongs. And we had to carry Bertie most of the way. The lovely publican, Deb, at Dingo Beach pub, felt sorry for Bertie and gave us all a lift home.

Had a fabulous time, met some wonderful people and got to hang out with two adorable boys, Willie and Bertie.
cheers til next time, Helen & Tim
