Mackay and Eungella National Park

Our sudden and unplanned detour via Mackay was due to a broken spring on the caravan. Thank you to the highway patrol for blocking off the highway and getting us to safety, also thank you to RACQ for organising the tilt-tray truck and accommodation, and to Torque Tyres and Trailers for getting us back on the road.

Having a few days to explore the area we headed to Eungella National Park for a day. Platypus live in the creek here and are commonly seen at dawn and dusk. We were very keen to see one, but might need to come back and stay a few days.

Sky Window looks down the Pioneer Valley. Stunning views.

Finch Hatton Gorge is another lovely area in Eungella NP. The hikes here are 3 to 5 hours, so we will need to come back and stay to explore the area more. Platypus are also found in this area.

Eungella Dam

Around Mackay are lots of sugar cane farms and sugar mills. Fields of sugar cane always bring back happy childhood memories for me.

Heading North. Cheers til next time, Helen and Tim
