Mossman Gorge

We stayed two nights at Mossman Pool and Caravan Park. Both are run by the local council; the pool is Olympic size.

We spent a day at Mossman Gorge, which we had not visited since 2015. So beautiful. You cannot drive private vehicles further than the cultural centre but from there you can catch a shuttle bus to and from the gorge ( for a fee of $15 per adult) or you can walk if you prefer. But, don’t expect to walk there and catch the bus back – there are only return tickets and they are only available from the cultural centre. Our driver was very clear on this subject.

Although swimming is not officially encouraged (apparently for water safety rather than wildlife reasons), there is a wide and (at the time) shallow stretch of the river where many people do swim. The water was freezing but we have been in colder water. You only get one life, so we try to live it to the fullest. Cold water won’t kill us (unlike some other things around there), and it was so invigorating. The smell and taste of fresh flowing river water is truly wonderful.

Cheers til next time, Helen & Tim
