Oxley Wild River NP & Hat Head

Oxley Wild River National Park

Apsley Falls Camp Ground was a short walk to the falls and various other short walks. There are flush toilets and each camp site has its own picnic table and fire pit. Fire wood is supplied but due to school holidays we took our own, just as well as there was not much and it was very wet. The geography in this area is stunning.

Hat Head

From Apsley Falls campground, we headed east to the coast.

Hat head is such a lovely place. The caravan park is nestled between Korogoro Creek and the surf ocean.

The water in Korogoro Creek is the colour of strong tea, due to tannins from trees leaching into the water. It is not harmful to humans.

The little town of Hat Head is walking distance from the caravan park. It has a small grocery store, a bowls club and a fabulous fish & chip shop ‘Captain Salty’

Camp Ground & town

A storm hit on our first night. Quite fierce. We woke to see lots of branches down and a tent in a tree.

Korogoro Walking Track

The hike around the headland was mostly easy going, not a long walk, about 4k. Fantastic views of the coastline. There was just one section where we crossed a granite cliff that went directly into the ocean. That was a bit exciting.
